Dr. Maina Talia
Hon. Dr. Maina Vakafua Talia is a distinguished Tuvaluan politician, theologian, and climate change advocate. Since February 27, 2024, he has served as Tuvalu’s Minister for Home Affairs, Climate Change, and Environment under Prime Minister Feleti Teo. He represents the island of Vaitupu in the national parliament, having been elected in the January 2024 general election.

Key Responsibilities
The ministry’s core responsibilities include:
- Local Government – Overseeing the Falekaupule system, Tuvalu’s traditional assemblies of elders, and their executive arms, the Kaupule. These bodies play a crucial role in island-level governance and decision-making.
- Climate Changed and Environmental Policy – Developing and implementing strategies to address climate change impacts, waste management, and environmental protection.
- Cultural Preservation: Promoting and safeguarding Tuvaluan culture and traditions, including the implementation of the Tuvalu National Culture Policy.
